Canon 7D HDMI Output To Vizio LCD TV

by Harlan Yee on November 3rd, 2010

If you own the Canon 7D or Rebel T2i, you might be wondering if the HDMI port sends out live video when recording. Naturally, we’d assume it does… but does it really? Well, I bought a mini HDMI cable for my 7D to answer that question for myself.

I’m quite used to having an external monitor connected to video cameras whenever I’m out on a shoot so I really wanted to know what is possible with the 7D.  Hopefully, my test gives you an idea of what to expect. The LCD monitor I used in this test was a Vizio VA19L-HDTV10T. It really looked good on this size of monitor.

By the way, the following video was shot on my Canon Powershot SX200 IS. A great little camera for doing web videos.
